LETHBRIDGE: New home construction is on the positive side of the ledger in
In September, there was an increase in combined single and multi-family
units for a total of 60-new builds. That compares with 52 for the same month
Year-to-date, numbers show 475 new home starts in the first 9-months of the
year, compared with 459 for the same time period last year.
On a provincial basis, most of the urban centres with a population over
50,000 saw gains in new home starts with the exception of Medicine Hat, which
saw a drop from 218 during the first nine months of 2013 to 187 during the same
period this year.
The other significant drop was tallied in Calgary. New home starts (combined
single and multi family units) for the city's metropolitan area came in at
8,833 in the first three-quarters of this year, which is a drop from the 10,005
new home starts recorded during the first nine months of 2013.
