U of L And Volunteer Lethbridge Team Up To Provide More Opportunities

LETHBRIDGE - Volunteer Lethbridge has teamed up with the University to provide more opportunities for students to serve in the community as a volunteer.

The organization will be moving into the University's Dr. Foster James Penny Building downtown in mid-November. This will become the main office for Volunteer Lethbridge. They will have five offices on the second floor of the building. Volunteer Lethbridge staff will also take on reception duties in the Penny Building's main lobby, allowing community access to the building and it's amenities during regular office hours.

U of L President Mike Mahon believes this opportunity will help students engage with the community and also allow them to grow as an individual. Mahon adds it's also a benefit when it comes to employment. He says "when students or graduates apply for jobs, those that have some volunteer experience on their resume get looked at more seriously than those that don't."

The Penny Building currently houses the University's alumni relations and annual giving programs, the U of L Call Centre and gallery space for Faculty of Fine Arts.
