At this point, there are still more questions than answers, as to how a wanted,
high-risk sex offender managed to cross the border into the U-S.
Edmonton police confirm 48-year old Michael Sean Stanley, who has been
missing for more than a week has been located in the United States. However, he
has not been arrested.
Stanley crossed the border in B-C into Blaine, Washington, on Monday night.
Detective Chris Hayduk won't say exactly where the fugitive is now, but notes
American authorities are aware of him, "The Edmonton police service has notified
the appropriate agencies in the United States and will be consulting with Crown
Prosecutors for the possibility of extradition of Stanley back to Canada".
When questioned about how Stanley was able to cross into the U-S, Detective
Hayduck said that is under investigation and revealed that the man has American
Citizenship, which may mean he didn't need a passport. Although Stanley is the
subject of a Canada-wide arrest warrant, he has no outstanding warrants in the
U-S and justice officials in Canada don't have the legal power to arrest him
Stanley has been the subject of a manhunt since he left Edmonton last
Tuesday and his electronic tracking bracelet was later found on the roof of a
Regional Police confirmed Stanley was in Lethbridge last Friday and his vehicle
was found at a west side home on Monday. Now, Edmonton Police say Stanley
crossed the border from BC into the U-S on Monday.
