Lethbridge Loses Long-Time Business Leader Del Allen

LETHRBIDGE:   The loss of a well-known local business leader will be felt across a wide strata of the community.

Del Allen passed away Tuesday night at the age of 70. Lethbridge Mayor Rajko Dodic issued the following statement Thursday morning:

"The passing of Del Allen is a huge loss for both his family and our community. A recipient of numerous awards, Mr. Allen exemplified what it means to be a community leader through his commitment to education and his support of an array of community groups.

Mr. Allen has left a lasting mark on our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family".

Details on funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized.

Del was born in Medicine Hat, and moved to Lethbridge when he was young. In 1975 he started his own business, D.A. Electric.

Aside from his business, Del was committed to and engaged in the Lethbridge community from a philanthropic standpoint. He is well known for numerous donations to both the University of Lethbridge and the College. He also financially supported the Boys and Girls Club of Lethbridge and numerous sports organizations throughout the city.

Most citizens will remember Del for spearheading the efforts to light the High Level bridge for the structure's 100th Anniversary
