City Council Term Comes To An End

LETHBRIDGE - City Council has wrapped up their final meeting of the term.

The municipal election will take place next Monday with the new Council meeting for the first time on October 28th. Mayor Rajko Dodic decided not to run again after one term as Mayor and two previous terms as Alderman. Councilor Tom Wickersham is also not seeking re-election after 12 years on City Council.

At the meeting, the City Manager brought up a number of accomplishments for this Council including demolition of the Atrium Building, completion of CASA, the Crossings Ice Complex, and the North Scenic Drive extension which will be finished shortly.

When asked about the best advice he can offer the incoming Council, Mayor Dodic says "when people fill Council chambers and have a particular point of view, don't assume that they represent the majority viewpoint. You have to consider all of the facts, make sure that the facts that you're getting are in fact facts and not opinions. People are entitled to their own opinions someone said, but facts are facts, so don't be swayed by those that have a specific agenda."

Dodic adds "I've enjoyed the people I've worked with. We've disagreed but we come together and we make decisions for the best of the community. I'm very proud of the three operating budgets I've been involved in, the three capital improvement budgets I've been involved with. I've prevailed on some things, I've not prevailed on other resolutions but you know that's what compromise means."
