Agriculture Hail Damage Costs $255-Million This Year

LETHBRIDGE - It appears this will be the third highest year for agriculture hail insurance claims in the province since 2000.

Manager of on-farm inspections with Agriculture Financial Services Corporation Brian Tainsh says the numbers are still being finalized, but there have been about 8,000 claims this year, with payouts of roughly $255-million. He adds the Lethbridge area was hit really hard to start the year, but claims have come from all over the province.

Most of the damage reported this year is in the medium range and not as severe as last year when there was record payouts of $450-million across the province.
