LETHBRIDGE: New home starts continue at a steady pace in Lethbridge but lag slightly
behind last year's numbers.
In October, there were a combined 51 single and multiple home starts in the
city, compared to 86 during the same month in 2012. For the period from January
to the end of October, there were 526 combined single and multi-family home
starts, when there were 544 during the same ten months last year.
Province wide, year-to-date housing start numbers are ahead of last year by
more than 1500 units (25,338 starts in 2012 compared to 26,916 so far this
The higher number of construction starts are due to increased activity in
Edmonton, Red Deer and Wood Buffalo. However, Calgary has seen a significant
decline, along with slight drops in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. Grande
Prairie's housing starts are on-par with last year.
