New Home Starts Up Across Province - Down Slightly In Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE:  New home starts continue at a steady pace in Lethbridge but lag slightly behind last year's numbers.

In October, there were a combined 51 single and multiple home starts in the city, compared to 86 during the same month in 2012. For the period from January to the end of October, there were 526 combined single and multi-family home starts, when there were 544 during the same ten months last year.

Province wide, year-to-date housing start numbers are ahead of last year by more than 1500 units (25,338 starts in 2012 compared to 26,916 so far this year).

The higher number of construction starts are due to increased activity in Edmonton, Red Deer and Wood Buffalo. However, Calgary has seen a significant decline, along with slight drops in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. Grande Prairie's housing starts are on-par with last year.
