Survey Finds Canadians Have Spending Addictions That Drain Bank Accounts

Canada: As you do Christmas shopping, something to think about. A new survey finds only half of Western Canadians feel they're in control of their finances.

Three-in-10 regret spending too much on drinks and dinner, and one-in-four say they over-spent on clothes, and lottery tickets. The survey was done for the non-profit Credit Canada Debt Solutions.

"What's it's really telling us is that a lot of us just can't seem to control our spending when it comes to our money vices. For example, going out to dinner with friends or shopping. We need to remember that every dollar counts and this kind of spending relly adds up." said CEO, Laurie Campbell.

21% of those surveyed worry friends will think they re cheap if they decline an invitation to go out. But, just 5% said they would actually feel that way about a friend trying to live within their means.

Only one-Western Canadian-in-five...or 21%, are ahead of where they thought they d be financially at this point in their lives. That's higher than the national averge of 17%.
