Two Picture Butte Men Killed In Weekend Plane Crash

LETHBRIDGE: An investigation continues into a weekend plane crash just off Vancouver Island, that claimed the life of two Picture Butte men.

The twin engine Cessna that 51-year old Jurrie Van Den Berg and his 25-year old son Mike were flying, went missing Saturday afternoon shortly after 3:30 in the area of Vargas Island.

Tofino and Ahousaht RCMP and RCMP West Coast Marine Services started the search that afternoon, but had to call it off because of the weather.

A short time after resuming the search Sunday morning, a Royal Canadian Air Force search crew found the wreckage of the aircraft and both occupants deceased.

No official word yet as to the cause of the crash.
