Fraud Trial Avoided As Accused Enters Guilty Plea

LETHBRIDGE: A nine day fraud trial has been cancelled for Rodney Blair Maxwell, as the accused decided to alter his plea to guilty Wednesday.

The Coaldale man admitted to a charge of fraud over $5,000, acknowledging that while he was the branch manager for Gescan, he stole money from his employer and covered it up between July of 2005 and October of 2010.

While the exact amount was not revealed in court, Regional Police reported the loss at just over $257,000. The amount, along with other details are expected to be released at sentencing.

A pre-sentence report has been ordered by the court for Maxwell, meaning sentencing has been scheduled for April 7th.
