City Receives Portion Of 2012 Alberta Summer Games Surplus

LETHBRIDGE - The City of Lethbridge received their portion of the 2012 Alberta Summer Games surplus this week.

The Games had a surplus of just over $150,000. The agreement was that the City would get one third of that because they put up $250,000 of cash and in kind support to get them going.

On Monday, Chair of the Games George Virtue presented Council with a $50,000 cheque, which will go into the Games Legacy Fund. Virtue says the funds "will be available for future bids, for future games, so that we can keep these games going well into the future and continue to have cracks at bidding on Canada games, provincial games."

The other $100,000 will go towards things that are connected to volunteerism, games, sport and fitness. The Lethbridge Sport Council, Lethbridge College, University of Lethbridge and the two school divisions that housed all the athletes will be getting some funding.
