Increase To Electricity Rates Expected In February

LETHBRIDGE - Electricity bills are expected to start going up next month.

That's because the transmission component, which is collected by the City of Lethbridge to pay for provincial costs, is set to go up by 31 per cent.  Meantime, the distribution components, which are controlled by the city, are recommended to go down slightly.

Overall, the larger the customer, the greater the impact will be. The average residential customer would see about a 4.4 per cent increase to their total bill, while large industrial customers would see closer to a 6 or 6.5 per cent increase.

The Distribution Tariff Bylaw will go for second and third reading at City Council next Monday, with the new rates to take effect on February 1st.
