No Drilling Lethbridge Campaign Expanding

LETHBRIDGE - No Drilling Lethbridge presented MLA Greg Weadick with 200 letters of opposition to urban drilling on Friday.

They are addressed to Premier Alison Redford and the Alberta Energy Regulator and express residents concerns with the risks associated with Goldenkey Oil's proposed drilling project in West Lethbridge.

The group also has over 8,000 signatures on a petition that calls on the provincial government to introduce legislation that would ban oil and gas drilling within Lethbridge municipal boundaries.

The west side door-to-door petition campaign has been successful and the group is now expanding to the north and south parts of the city. They will continue getting signatures until February 15th and plans to have the petition presented in the Alberta Legislature in March.
