Taylor Swift is about to become a free agent.
The music superstar’s current recording contract expires in November and she can renew it, sign with another label, or go it alone.
According to Variety, some music industry insiders figure Swift could command as much as $20 million ( U.S. $) per album in a new deal.
The 28-year-old singer has been under contract since she was 15 with Big Machine Records, the indie label that owns her master recordings.
Variety cited experts as saying Swift might not stay with Big Machine if it doesn’t agree to give up some ownership of her master recordings. She could also sign a deal with Universal Music, which distributes Big Machine, or jump ship completely and ink a deal with another label.
Swift, who is regarded as a smart businesswoman, could also choose not to sign with anyone and simply make her own distribution and marketing deals.
