One day I came to work on a Saturday when no one else was in the building, and got stuck in the elevator. It just kept going back and forth between the basement and 2nd floor, even though I had pressed the main floor button. It was like elevator groundhog day. Eventually I was able to get the doors to open to the basement and get out, but had I been wearing my Fitbit that day, I’m guessing my heart rate would have been in the 100-120 range.
So yes, there was a moment of panic. But nothing like what happened recently in Chicago. A group of tourists were in an elevator in the John Hancock Centre when it plunged more than 80 floors!! That’s the stuff nightmares are made of people. Luckily no one required medical attention, even a pregnant woman who was among the group.
